The Class of 2012: An Update

August 11th, 2012 marked the passage for the latest group of SIOM students into the beginning of their professional careers. Ten students passed through the crucible of SIOM training and emerged ready to begin helping patients.  Find out what they are doing now.

After graduation, Nile Bachmann and his partner moved back to Charlotteville, Virginia where he will be joining a practice called Common Ground Healing Arts in the new year.  This practice has a vision of a community where members of different backgrounds can come together for the common purpose of health.  Nile will be an acupuncturist in a collaborative care setting and you can visit this practice at http://commongroundcville.org.
Spring Chwin Cheng has been enjoying every aspect of life since graduation.  Currently, she is trying to weave work with creative endeavors.  She has been actively involved in the community of contact improvisation dance and has been enjoying her drumming practice.  She has been spending a lot of time outdoors with her two lovely dogs, a beautiful Husky and Border Collie.  At the same time, Spring has been enjoying the sanctuary space of her home.  She has been assisting SIOM students by offering her expertise as a Chinese Medical Language tutor.  Her acupuncture practice is in Bothell and you can visit her at:   www.cultivatingvitality.com

Rebecca has been enjoying some much needed time off to rest and rejuvenate after a very lengthy period in higher education. Aside from board exam preparation, she has been spending her time reading for pleasure, reconnecting with family and friends, cooking, experimenting with fermentation, and enjoying nature. She is also preparing for the next phase of her life as she transitions from a student of East Asian Medicine to a professional acupuncturist and herbalist. Currently, she is entertaining a number of possibilities in terms of location and style or focus of practice. She plans to be up and running in Spring 2013. Stay tuned…
After graduation, Xinli Du went back to China to enjoy a much anticipated vacation and also to explore local Chinese medicine modalities. Currently, she is preparing her new clinic on the Eastside (serving Redmond, Bellevue and Issaquah). Xinli is particularly interested in patients with sports related injuries, as well as those with chronic health concerns and syndromes resulting from having stressful daily routines.  Xinli is also enjoying having more time with her two children. Please check out her website at www.AcuSpaceHealthClinic.com.

Kirby is in the process of taking her board exams.  She has been exploring locations to practice in Seattle.  Kirby has been active with friends and the excitement of music and Seattle coffee culture.

I have been enjoying my time traveling to all the places I have been wanting to see and catching up with friends and family that I have lost touch with while I was busy with my studies.  I have also recently finished setting up my practice in the Lynnwood area, out of a chiropractic space (Hemphill Chiropractic) and I am very happy and excited to be able to finally practice medicine full time.  I employ a mix of naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, cranial sacral as well as visceral manipulation to treat a variety of conditions.  I am very happy with what I do and I end each day with such an abundance of gratitude to be able to work with people in my capacity as an educator and an advocate for their well-being and health.

Chelsea is currently practicing acupuncture with SIOM alum Maria Portnaya at Ageless Acupuncture, located in Pike Place Market.  She specializes in treating gynecological complaints, mental health, and pain conditions.  In her free time since graduating, she has enjoyed studying western herbal tradition and experimenting with cultured and fermented foods.  You can visit Ageless Acupuncture online at www.agelessacupuncture.org.

Since graduation, I have been loving having some free time to paint and get out in nature! My TCM practice is called Seattle Acupuncture Hub and I practice out of the lovely Dragonfly Holistic Healing space in the heart of Fremont. I enjoy having a wide variety of patients, but specialize in women's health, infertility and internal medicine, offering a variety of acupuncture styles, herbal medicine and tuina. You can find me on the web at http://www.seattleacupuncturehub.com

Casey Zerbe has been riding the wild year of the Dragon since graduating in August. She spent time in mountain retreat in the Northern Cascades in Washington and British Columbia and traveled all over the Puget Sound and the Midwest, her homeland. She is currently working part-time caring for two vivacious preteens to fund her passion for social entrepreneurship and Traditional East Asian Medicine. Stay tuned for the exciting transformations that are sure to be part of the year of the Snake. As a tribute to the primacy of love over all other concerns, Casey agreed to marry Matthew LeMay (SIOM Class of 2010).
